5 SEO Quick Wins Any Business Owner Can Do Today
You don't need to be a developer to improve your search rankings. Here are five things you can fix right now.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) sounds technical, but many of the most impactful improvements are surprisingly simple. You don't need a developer or an expensive agency to get started - just a bit of time and the right checklist.
Here are five quick wins that can meaningfully improve your site's visibility in Google.
1. Write Unique Title Tags for Every Page
The title tag is the line of text that appears as the blue link in Google results - like the headline on a book spine. Every page on your site should have a unique, descriptive title under 60 characters that includes your target keyword.
Bad: "Home | My Company" Good: "Affordable Plumbing Services in Dublin | QuickFix Plumbing"
A clear title tells both Google and searchers exactly what the page is about.
2. Add Meta Descriptions
Meta descriptions are the short summaries that appear under the title in search results. While they don't directly affect rankings, a compelling description increases click-through rates - which does help.
Keep them under 160 characters. Include a call to action like "Learn more", "Get a free quote", or "See our work."
3. Fix Broken Links
Nothing frustrates visitors (or search engines) more than clicking a link and landing on a 404 error page (the "page not found" message). Broken links erode trust and waste link equity - the trust that gets passed from one page to another when you link to it, which helps your pages rank.
Run a free website audit with AuditCrow to find broken links across your site, then either fix the URLs or remove the links. For more depth, see our guide on how to audit your website for SEO.
4. Use Headings Properly
Headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.) are the titles and subheadings that structure your content. Every page should have exactly one H1 (the main heading) that describes the page topic, with H2s for main sections and H3s for subsections.
Don't skip levels (e.g. going from H1 straight to H4) and don't use headings just for styling - use CSS for that instead.
5. Make Sure Your Site Works on Mobile
Over 60% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices. Google uses mobile-first indexing - meaning it mainly looks at the mobile version of your site when deciding where you rank. If your site is slow or hard to use on a phone, you lose out.
Check that text is readable without zooming, buttons are easy to tap, and content doesn't overflow the screen. AuditCrow's scan highlights mobile usability issues automatically. For the bigger picture, read why website speed matters.
Start With What Matters Most
You don't need to fix everything at once. Pick the quick win that applies most to your site and work from there. Small, consistent improvements compound over time - and that's how you climb the rankings. Run a free SEO check to see where you stand, or browse our FAQ for more on how we check your site.
